    The New Harmony Antique Show

On June 8th and 9th, we welcome you to the 18th annual New Harmony Antique Show located in picturesque downtown New Harmony, Indiana.  This is a one-of-a-kind, indoor and outdoor, exclusive collection of authentic antiques, vintage décor, furniture, and collectibles located directly on Main Street and in the Ribeyre Gymnasium. Just a little backstory on our Firehouse Antiques journey, it was at this event in 2003 that Jeff fell in love with New Harmony and called me excited to buy the town’s 100 year old firehouse so we could live out our dream of owning an antique shop in a small town. After I visited New Harmony with Jeff…

    Evansville Estate Sale

Greetings antique lovers! So many have been asking us, “When is your next Estate Sale?” You will love these two sales! Yes, that is what I said, this sale is two houses that belong to a mother and a daughter. They live across the street from each other, so we are selling the contents of two houses on the same dates and times.  The estate sale is set for Friday April 12 – Sunday April 14, 2019 8am-3pm for both houses and they are full of the types of estate items you love to find. For those who are new friends, we do estate “tag” sales, everything is tagged or…

    Harmony Spring Market

One of my favorite parts of New Harmony, Indiana is the way it blooms in the Spring. Over the last few weeks, the sunshine has brought up the daffodils and the trees are blossoming. People are filling our streets to see our town transform into a spring wonderland. It is the perfect time of year to take a self guided walking tour of our town or come enjoy one of our many events. This Saturday April 6th from 9am to 5pm the town is hosting Harmony Spring Market. This event has all the spring inspiration you need wrapped up in one event. Ribeyre Gym will be full of vintage items,…

An Inside Look At Our Fixer Upper

In our last post, Our Fixer Upper, I blogged all about the outside of our mid-century home on Brewery Street. Now is the second part, a post about some of the work we are doing on the inside. The most important piece of advice I can share is to consult an expert! Professionals know their business and for the interior house remodel I reached out to friends and valued customers. After closing the sale of our barn, now The Barn by Firehouse Antiques, we contacted our friend Emily. She shared many ideas how we could renovate the space to reflect our style as well as maintain the conveniences we need…

    The Cottage

We blogged about The Barn by Firehouse Antiques and Our Fixer Upper and here is the final building of our recent purchase, The Cottage. The Cottage is located beside our barn and it was New Harmony’s Barbershop as well as recently, Just A Stone’s Throw who merged with Lowry Hollow and opened their new location at 310 Main Street New Harmony, Indiana. At first we thought this could be an Airbnb….ah dreams! But we are excited to announce it will now be the new home of  Moon River Spa owned and operated by Jenifer Blevins who is a friend and longtime resident of New Harmony, IN. She’s a certified…

  • The Barn by Firehouse Antiques

    Our Fixer-Upper

As you know, last October we bought a barn. Check out our last blog post here for more details. When we bought this property, our main goal was to utilize the hundred-year-old barn for storage and as a potential event venue. The neat, but scary part of buying the barn was that it came with a house and a cottage which both need fixing up. Now we have our mid-century modern “fixer-upper”. In the beginning we focused on the barn and started preparing it as the space we dreamed of for 10 years, but over the last couple of months we started thinking of the work we wanted to accomplish…

Estate Sales Are Back At Firehouse Antiques

Our customers love to shop estate sales and they kept asking when we would be returning this service, so here it is!  We are back to doing estate sales. For more than 25 years we have worked with our community to help liquidate estates in Nashville, Tennessee and through our shop, Firehouse Antiques in New Harmony, Indiana.  After taking a couple years to enjoy some travel and time with our girls, we are happy to say we are accepting new estates. Our top two questions in our store are, “Where do we find all this amazing stuff, and how can we sell our own items?” The answer to both of…

    The Barn by Firehouse Antiques

Yes, we bought a barn. Firehouse Antiques is expanding and we could not be more excited! About eight years ago, we went to a local estate sale here in New Harmony, IN and the wheels to grow our business really started turning. The family of our gentleman friend held the sale in this amazing old barn just two blocks from our shop. Although eight years ago the timing was not right for his family to sell the property, my husband and I let them know that if they ever sold the barn we were interested. Over the years we have walked our small town’s streets and dreamed of our expansion…

    Vintage Halloween

We love vintage holiday decor here at Firehouse Antiques, and Halloween is no exception. It wasn’t until early in the 20th Century, that Halloween became a cultural occurrence. Americans began to have Halloween-themed parties, and the company Dennison Manufacturing, based in Framingham Massachusetts, took notice. Starting in 1909, Dennison produced some of the rarer items of Halloween ephemera, including invitations, place cards, decorations, and an annual catalog called Bogie Books.   Bogie Books were a how-to on hosting an adult-themed Halloween party, with menu, games, decoration, and costume suggestions, some of which were also sold by Dennison.  Bogie Books were published from 1909 to 1940, and they were an annual…

    Finding Original Farmhouse Antiques

Hey antique lovers, Jeff and I just got back from Minnesota and we’d love to talk to you a little bit about one of the hottest trends we picked for this trip, farmhouse antiques! We absolutely love the trend of farmhouse antiques.  Our shop is filled with one-of-a-kind authentic farmhouse items, some of which you can view here. This trend appeals to a wide variety of people because it combines both beauty and function. Just stepping out our back door at Firehouse Antiques will lead you straight into some family farms that date back to New Harmony’s beginnings. As you might imagine from all the Indiana corn jokes, we are…
