One of my favorite parts of New Harmony, Indiana is the way it blooms in the Spring. Over the last few weeks, the sunshine has brought up the daffodils and the trees are blossoming. People are filling our streets to see our town transform into a spring wonderland. It is the perfect time of year to take a self guided walking tour of our town or come enjoy one of our many events. This Saturday April 6th from 9am to 5pm the town is hosting Harmony Spring Market. This event has all the spring inspiration you need wrapped up in one event. Ribeyre Gym will be full of vintage items, plants, boutique items and much more. We will have food trucks and many of the shops in town are hosting special events. There will be something for everyone, including the kids.
As we have anxiously awaited the arrival of spring at Firehouse Antiques, I decided to host a special event combining two of my passions in our shop for Harmony Spring Market. As many of you know, I love succulents, and most of my knowledge is from making mistakes and learning along the way. After trial and error and some research, I’m finally gaining enough knowledge to share what I’ve learned with you. I will have my potting station open all day from 9am to 5pm so you can stop in the shop and I will pass along my tips and tricks to having succulents that survive. We will have fun sharing planting tips. You can bring your own vintage planter, or if you are feeling really trendy bring an old item to re-purpose as a planter.
Everyone is welcome, even if you do not have a green thumb. I often hear that succulents are hard to grow, but that is not the case. Did you know that when the leaves fall off of a healthy plant that you can grow another succulent from just one leaf by laying it in a certain soil? It’s called propagation. I will show you plants I have propagated and tell you how I did it. We will have succulents specially sourced just for this event from Wilde Horticulture available to purchase. I also have a large collection of vintage clay pots that I will share with you if you do not have your own planter. We will have you all ready for one the the biggest spring trends, succulents in vintage planters.
This will be an Open House type of event so please start a conversation when you arrive so I know you came to plant! All you need to do is come on April 6th to Firehouse Antiques on 608 Main Street in New Harmony, IN and let’s create some fun planters together! Be sure to check Visit New Harmony’s Facebook page for all the events our town has coming up.
