We blogged about The Barn by Firehouse Antiques and Our Fixer Upper and here is the final building of our recent purchase, The Cottage. The Cottage is located beside our barn and it was New Harmony’s Barbershop as well as recently, Just A Stone’s Throw who merged with Lowry Hollow and opened their new location at 310 Main Street New Harmony, Indiana. At first we thought this could be an Airbnb….ah dreams! But we are excited to announce it will now be the new home of Moon River Spa owned and operated by Jenifer Blevins who is a friend and longtime resident of New Harmony, IN. She’s a certified massage therapist who loves nature and brings it into your business and the treatment of her clients. Did I mention she gives the best massages? We are currently revamping the space for it to function as a spa. Their many services include skin care therapy, therapeutic massage, spa packages and restorative therapies. She also creates soap, sells CBD oil, and uses natural medicine for healing.
We are utilizing our strength of farmhouse style to decorate the space while adding some much needed features, like a shower, a kitchenette and a washer and dryer. We also installed a new HVAC unit by Mitsubishi. Here’s the link to the unit we chose. Baize contracting installed the new HVAC unit and they are also the general contractor for The Cottage renovations. They have been great to work with and have patiently walked us through the details of this project. Thanks to Jason Baize and his guys for helping us get this done by April 1st, 2019 so Jenifer could relocate her business.
We are removing a portion of the back wall and using some white planking on the walls to keep the look soft and serene. Plus it has a shiplap feel that we love. This planking came from Menards.
This allows some more open wall space from the front door. Our plan is to put up some farmhouse details in this space. We were thinking maybe a cupboard. What would you put up in this space to make it functional, but also add some extra style? Let us know in the comments below.
The area of wall we are taking out will showcase one of our most recent finds a great industrial table with a wood top. This is a great example of finding an older piece of furniture and repurposing it in a new space. Speaking of repurposing, we are going to take this wonderful old cash register stand in original green paint, from our trip to Orinoco and turn it into a sink basin. It has open shelving in the back for added storage. We will be doing a post on turning this cash register stand into a sink using a black Lavello Granite Sink. Check back for this post later to see how we do it!
We will continue to update you on our renovation process. What do you remember this building being? In New Harmony we usually refer to it as the Barbershop, but we know it has a history. Let us know in the comments below and if you have any pictures be sure to share them. Don’t forget to like us on Facebook and Instagram as well as subscribe to our newsletter to stay up to date with our events. We are working on some estate sales that you do not want to miss. Check out our video below of our Orinoco trip where we found this amazing cash register stand that we will use as a sink base.
